Family History: The Ravenclaws were agricultural people, native to the Isle of Man. Moirrey was a midwife and Juan a farmer. As far back as Rowena can trace, her ancestry has always been both agricultural and magical. As her family were simple folk, Rowena finds it ironic that she would be a genius whereas her parents and other relatives have average or below-average intelligences.

Personal History: Rowena was born on the Isle of Man during the late eleventh century to a farmer and his wife, both magical folk who used their talents primarily for agricultural uses (although her mother also utilized magic in midwifery.) Godred Crovan invaded the Isle for the third time during her early adolescence, giving Rowena the opportunity for which she had always dreamed--the opportunity to go to school. She sold herself as a slave to Ireland where she worked for a year under an old man (who was rather perverted, actually) named Andrew Elians. Helga Hufflepuff lived on a nearby farm and the two became good friends. Rowena began selling herself to other men in the village to secretly raise money to go to college. When she was fifteen, Rowena poisoned Elians in his sleep and was inherited by his son, who lived in England. The son, Edward, was a doctor who had just completed his studies at Cambridge, and taught her medicine, biology, anatomy, and music. Rowena began to long to practice medicine as well. She received her doctorate of medicine from Cambridge when she was eighteen. When Edward's English friends began to observe Rowena's magical traits, however, they insisted that he kill her. Having grown to be her close friend and lover, Edward refused and instead falsified her death, freeing her and sending her into virtual exile, where she met Salazar Slytherin, and later Gryffindor, beginning Hogwarts School. She saw Edward for the last time when she was approximately twenty-five years old, when he was on his deathbed, dying of tuberculosis. She contracted the disease and continues to suffer from it during her resurrection, although it led to her death at the young age of thirty-six in her first "life."
